Must Pumping Systems

When you've outgrown destemming straight into bins, it's time to start pumping must.

Two Units, One Gentle System

There are many options for must pumps out there. Remember the way a tractor with a PTO works? You buy the implement and attach it to the tractor when you need it. In a perfect world, your must pump would work the same way.

Welcome to the perfect world of the Carlsen must pumping system. Your workhorse, do-all winery pump, already known as the gentlest and strongest pump in the winery (read: Waukesha), has an attachment that turns it into a must pumping system. No need to own that expensive, grape-mashing, one-trick pony sold by our competitors that sits around all year waiting to be useful.

75% of the cost of our ultra-gentle must pumping system is that wonderful pump that works for so many other things.

Crush Equipment That Works After Crush

Crush equipment that's used after crush is worth twice what it costs. Waukesha owners say it quickly becomes the preferred pump for wine transfers, pumpovers, racking, bottling and barrel topping, with the optional pressure-controlled switch and barrel-topping wand. To quote Chris Wirth, "The Waukesha is the only pump in the industry that does not degrade overall wine quality."

  • Lowest solids of any mechanized must transfer
  • Most whole berries, fewest broken seeds
  • Lower dissolved oxygen
  • Self-priming
  • Handles short periods of dry running
  • Your second pump can be smaller and cheaper

We have professionally tested numbers to back that up. Every winery needs a second pump, and with the Waukesha first in the batting order, pump #2 can be much less powerful and less costly. See all our pumps.
