Sure, it's a small advantage. You may be using oak dust for finishing, processing, or fermentation. You may be using oak staves, sticks, or chunks in tanks or neutral barrels. You will get a decent result, but not a result like a barrel which still has flavor.
In the event that you are trying to choose how to allocate funds for new barrels, go good, or don't bother.
Barrels either make a good change, a bad change, or no change. High end barrels make a good change.
Some cooperages deliver barrels which are slightly different from one ordered with an identical description the years before. You don't need another variable in your vintage.
