Tonnellerie Radoux understands that there is as much art and science in engineering the barrel for your specific wine as there is in the wine you make.

Once we have found the right barrel for your cellar, we get closer to repeating that result next year because we have moved away from blind forest designation. Instead, our research and tasting trials have proven that our methodology  - in using a broader geographic region and a rigorous grain classification of each stave from each tree - helps us trust the oak and eliminates the need for trusting the forest.

We age all of our staves until each one is at a specific percentage of moisture content and build every barrel by hand after classifying each stave. This keeps us on a predictable path. No two trees are perfectly identical, but we try to use as many highly similar staves in each barrel as possible to produce the best quality that we can.

The responsibility of New World Winery Equipment, LLC is to understand Radoux's stave selection, geographical oak origin, cooperage and toasting well enough so that when we discuss your winemaking style and philosophy on oak, we know exactly what to recommend.

We want to know everything about how each wine will be made and how long the barrels are used so that we can build you the barrel you need to accomplish your goal. We know that each state, region, appellation and vineyard have their own terroir. Each variety has differing levels of acidity and different challenges in ripening from place to place, all of these factors influence your oak and toasting selections. We want you to make the best wine possible and we offer over 3,000 combinations of oak, grain, toasting, and sizes of barrels to accomplish this.

The quality of our wine barrels is on a par with some of the most expensive oak on the market. Our prices are not the lowest you will find because we are still artisans; still making them one at a time.

Radoux's French, American, and Eastern European Oak barrels, Oak Tanks, Hog's Heads, and Puncheons are complimented by a full offering of Oak Alternatives under our Pronektar brand.

Together, these products bring to bear a level of quality not known in our price niche elsewhere in the industry.

C'mon, LOOK at this barrel! It's gorgeous. And you could pay 30% more through other coopers and gain nothing.

A note about ordering barrels:

You will save as much as 50% on shipping and more if you order early in the year. We know it is difficult to forecast what you will need at that point.  We try to deliver a container to a central point in the East, or a consolidated truck to the Finger Lakes to save you money. We need you to work with us and order early to help yourself and your neighbor.

UPDATE:

2008 Early ordering has been extended to the East only!!!!! If Joe Lutomske is your representative for Tonnellerie Radoux, You have until May 1st to put in your order with Radoux.

Recoopered Barrels:

It all seems the same in theory. Fiats and Ferarris are both cars, right? The point is that the result is different.

Before you compare us to recoopered barrels, remember that the results you get from shaved and re-toasted barrels is NEVER the same as when that barrel was new.

Would you paint over rust? Would you cook a turkey half way this year and half way next year? Does the idea of getting a completely different result than what the cooper specifically intended sound good to you? We don't pretend that there is not a potential for positive results using recoopered wood. The difference is in knowledge, experience, and service.

You can call Tonnellerie Radoux in Santa Rosa, California and ask for a barrel to suit your Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Norton, Chambourcin, Merlot, Baco Noir, or Port- or anything- and simply by asking a few questions, your representative knows which of 10,000 possible combinations of wood grain, wood origin, toasting method/level/option will work on your wine. And we can deliver a barrel exactly like that one next year.

Try some new sticks for about $30.00 in that older barrel before you support that barrel chop- shop. See below for Pronektar Oak Alternatives.

Pronektar Oak Alternatives

The Oak Alternatives that we offer from the Pronektar brand include barrel sticks, short or long tank staves, dust, granules, chips, and chunks.  These are available in American or French Oak and in many toasting levels. Contact us and we will send pricing, dosing recommendations, etc. Or, you can download some important Oak Alternatives information here (below).

You don't don't know until you try if you could be improving your product by using oak dust on the crush pad, oak chips or granulate in the fermentor, and oak barrel sticks or oak tank staves in the cellar. I imagine that you are using enzymes at fermentation on reds. If you add tannin, consider adding American oak powder or French oak powder instead.
